So its voting time here and I'm 18. But I ain't feeling like voting this time. There are several reasons. The most prominent one being that my voting card isn't ready yet(:P) due to several reasons needless to mention here. But when I read about the 62% turnout in UP(as in phase 1) being the highest ever, I was shocked! I mean, 38% of the voters don't vote only?!?! That's like 38% of the candidates not appearing for CLAT. What a completion would it be then? But before we blame our so called 'well-established' urbans of irresponsibility towards the nation and throw at them arrows of: 'If you don't vote; don't jabber" or "You can
just argue and not act"; its important to look at it from their perspective and try to understand why don't they value voting.
To begin, I'm assuming that the 'Urbans' who are being criticized of not voting but speaking on National issues, to be educated people leading a decent life. So, okay! Assume yourself to be the typical urban being talked about here.(And since you can real all this, all the assumptions hold good
at you!)

#1 You are educated, you understand all the tantrums and games of the parties, that once the elections are over; they'll vanisg for another 5 years, that there exists no ideal leader; let it be an ideal-party, that all are equally corrupt, and you understand that these people just preach and don't practice and that's your problem! You understand all this too well. And hence you loose all the enthusiasm to stand in queues at the voting booth for hours to vote for your favorite candidate/party. You know whoever comes into power will be powerful. And that he'll use this power to increase his power! You know that today its UPA facing all the scams, tomorrow it'll be NDA. Because power is powerful! Voting today is like choosing Puff Adder over Russel's viper and Black Mamba. You know they all bite, but maybe Puff Adder is less venomous! With all this; voting seems to be such an immature thing to do. Their is no one even close to your 'ideal-leader'. Party in power is bound to be corrupt and opposition will only highlight the former's flaws. This is the ugly truth that you (the educated) understand. And thus, voting seems to be a very bogus thing when one knows whatever party gets elected; the condition won't change. But then, don't forget that once in a blue moon we do get such leaders. (I'm saying this keeping in mind the Bihar and Gujarat example)

#2. Its a big task for the you to come out of your 'comfort-zone'. Standing in queue for hours is such a tiring thing for you! And what do you get at last? The small blue dot on your finger! The blue stamp on your wrist looks much 'reasonable'. And its not even cool. What will you tell your friends? You're missing the small outing just to vote!?!? Shehhh!! How pathetic that sounds. This might sound sarcastic but its true. It IS really hard to get out of those comfy beds when you're not going to be paid for your toil directly.(Or let's say in cash! :P) afterall, all the only reason you work your asses off in the office is for money only! But what great do you get voting? Not even a good leader! There is no driving factor!
But I seriously think people will vote if it goes online!

PS: This is not a conclusive piece. In the end, the decision is YOURS!
And I WILL vote in the 2013 elections. Afterall; little is not less always! :)
